What is CrimDell Small Business Network?

CrimDell SBN is a William & Mary student-run organization offering free counseling to help small businesses navigate through the challenges from the pandemic. COVID has damaged many economies and negatively impacted small businesses. Our organization aims to help local businesses in the Greater Williamsburg Area by partnering with Hampton Roads SBDC to provide 10 hours of free business counseling. Projects support operations, marketing, finance, and leadership. 

 

Our Impact in the Community

Since our inception, we have helped more than 30 businesses across 9 counties, of which 64% were minority owned-businesses (Women Majority, Veterans, Non-White, and Disability Owned Businesses). We helped businesses retain over 130 employees and we have counseled businesses across 24 various industries encompassing retail, transportation, education, food, and more. Although we have been successful in supporting our community, we need funding to continue CrimDell operations. Your financial assistance would go towards recruiting vulnerable businesses, providing networking opportunities, and developing our toolkit/ resources for small businesses.

 

Why help small businesses?

When you help small businesses, you help your local economy and community. There were over 30 million small businesses in the U.S. in 2019 which outnumber corporations 1162 to 1.  60 to 80% of all new jobs come from small businesses. Additionally, 52% of Americans are employed by small businesses. This is especially relevant during recession times such as during this COVID-era as small businesses tend to add jobs while older, larger ones eliminated more jobs than they produced (Business Insider).
